Summer 2000 was another life experience.  In the last days of July I flew from Miami to Frankfurt and from there to Madrid.  **** I had reservation in  ["Hostal" . On C/. Hortaleza, 19 , 2o. piso. Their fax number is 91-521-1630.  It is around $20.00 per night,]  An elegant clean air conditioned room with two beds and the shower phone and TV.    I arrived on Sunday  the hot streets of the center of Madrid were empty.  First I visited  the Plaza Colon, where only few tourist were walking around  in the hot afternoon,  the temperature displayed on the billboard,  was  showing 45 degrees in Celsius  (about 105 F).  There is no humidity in Madrid; therefore the temperature didn’t bother me.
